ASEAN Critical and Emerging Technologies Digital Summit and Masterclass

22 November and 29 November 2023

Critical and Emerging Technologies will transform economic competitiveness, national and international security as well as democratic governance and social cohesion. These new technologies are often enabled by, and reliant on, information that is created, stored, and transmitted through digital networks.

Hosted by Standards Australia with the support of the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the ASEAN Critical and Emerging Technologies Digital Summit and Masterclass is a two-day virtual event, bringing together leading Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) experts with ASEAN-based standards developers, policymakers, industry, and business professionals, as well as future leaders to reinforce the importance of the adoption and development of standards with the advancement of Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) across South-East Asia.

Opening of the Event

This opening session will launch the event, with opening remarks provided by DFAT and by Standards Australia.


Digital Summit:
How can Critical and Emerging Technologies (and their Standards) create a more equitable future?

This session will highlight the role of critical and emerging technologies will play in creating a more equitable and inclusive future. The session will include keynote speakers, each specialising in different CET’s, and highlighting different elements of how their technology in an enabler for Gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI).


Masterclass:
Agritech

This session will introduce participants to the fundamentals of Agritech, its relevance to the ASEAN region, the potential impact that it may have on regional agriculture and the role that Standards will play in enabling these technologies. The session will include Case Studies from experts in the field.


Breakout:
Increasing involvement in International Standardisation

This interactive breakout session will explore opportunities and challenges for CET standards in South-East Asia, and actions that participants can take to increase ASEAN involvement in international standards for CET. Discussions will utilize an interactive Miro whiteboard and focus on emerging technologies and actions to take in the short, medium, and long-term.

Digital Summit:
Humanising Technologies – Why we shouldn’t fear the future

This panel discussion will seek to address common concerns regarding the implementation and impact of Critical and Emerging Technologies on ASEAN Member States.


Masterclass:
Sustainable Green Energy

This session will introduce participants to the fundamentals of Sustainable Green Energy, its relevance to the ASEAN region, the potential impact that it may have on regional agriculture and the role that Standards will play in enabling these technologies.

The session will include Case Studies from experts in the field.


Breakout:
Generation NEXT

This interactive breakout session will focus on look forward to emerging trends and technologies and explore how ASEAN might inspire the next generation to be early adopters and standardisers of these technologies. Discussions will utilize an interactive Miro whiteboard and focus on emerging technologies and actions to take in the short, medium, and long-term.


Event Close

This session will wrap-up the event, promote next steps and encourage the completion of the post-event survey.

Who is the audience for this event?

The event is aimed at participants from South-East Asia with an interest in CET standards. We do welcome participants from outside of South-East Asia, noting that the event sessions will have a South-East Asian focus.

Will the event be held virtually?

This event is designed as a fully virtual event, to welcome participants from across the region and around the world.

Will the event be recorded?

Yes. For participants who are unable to attend all sessions and would like to receive a recording, please contact CET@standards.org.au. An outcomes report from the event will also be shared with all registered participants following the conclusion of the event.

What if I have no knowledge of standards development?

The event is designed to welcome participants with a variety of backgrounds, including those new to standards development.
