Following a review spanning well over 12 months, Standards Australia has outlined changes to be implemented as part of its Technical Governance Review.“This is an exciting step forward for Standards Australia,” said Ms Kareen Riley-Takos, General Manager – Operations at Standards Australia. “Each year, Standards Australia works with over 5,000 contributors to publish hundreds of standards meaning any step to improve our processes will have a substantial impact on a number of sectors.”

The Technical Governance Review, underpinned by a report from cameron. ralph. khoury, found Standards Australia should strive to be:

• More strategic in setting its development priorities and in articulating the cost/benefit and impact of its work;
• More open in its processes with inclusion, transparency and community accessibility being key themes in all areas of work; and
• More proactive in quality assurance with a particular focus on the quality of input, standards development decision making and standards development dispute resolution.

“There are a number of areas to be implemented for the coming financial year,” said Ms Riley-Takos. “We have been discussing how to improve the work of Standards Australia for some time now. We have engaged contributors, staff, nominating organisations, governments, and the Australian public to ensure the future of Standards Australia is one continuing to deliver beyond expectations.
