The importance of digital transformation

April 20, 2020

The coronavirus is challenging organisations across the country, forcing them to adapt and change the way they do day-to-day business. In many ways, there has never been a more important time for Australian Standards. The speed and scope of our work must adapt to these difficult times, and so far we have proven we can measure up to the task ahead. Two years ago, we embarked on our Technical Governance Review (TGR) with the goal of transforming Standards Australia into a more effective organisation. Combined with our Digital Transformation efforts we are well placed to continue to support standards development and our thousands of contributors working remotely. Our toolkit includes:

  • Connect, our contributor portal, which has been launchpad for range of TGR outcomes and has proven itself as an essential piece of the puzzle in our organisation being able to function online. Since it was launched in Febuary 2019, it has changed the way that committees, nominating organisations and the public are able to more efficiently interact with our systems and processes.
  • Zoom is a remote conferencing application that enabled us to facilitate remote meetings and collaboration, even before these testing times.
  • And more importantly, lots of wonderful and dedicated people (staff and contributors), that despite their own personal challenges amidst these difficult times, have stepped up and embraced new ways of working to ensure the important outputs of standards are not impacted by Coronavirus.

At Standards Australia we believe this crisis, whilst challenging, will teach us new skills, resilience and set us up for a stronger and much more adaptive and agile standards development system.
