Dr Alan Morrison recognised on Australia Day Honours list 2018

The contribution of Dr Alan Morrison to the development of standards in Australia, and internationally, has today been recognised with his place on the Australia Day Honours list 2018.
During his tenure on the Board of Standards Australia, spanning 11 years (2003-2014), Dr Morrison served as Deputy Chairman and Chairman for four years in each capacity supported by his extensive background in engineering.
Whilst Deputy Chairman of Standards Australia, Dr Morrison was elected President of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). Dr Morrison was the first Australian ever to fill this highly influential and globally significant role in 2009.
During his two year role as President, Dr Morrison oversaw the development and approval of ISO’s Strategic Plan for 2010-2015. This plan became the blueprint for ISO’s work during the period and established the objectives and goals for the international work of standards development.
Involvement in ISO as President was a huge achievement for Australia, and placed Dr Morrison at the forefront of international standardisation reach into emerging economies and raising the profile of the benefits of standards in areas of innovation globally.
Dr Morrison has been made a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to the community through development and support for international standards, to the energy supply sector, and to engineering.
Dr Morrison’s recognition on this Honours list is testament to his many years of service to development of standards in Australia, as well as his promotion of the benefits of international standardisation.
“The role of standards in promoting innovation and encouraging trade and international cooperation was a hallmark of Dr Morrison’s ISO Presidency and Standards Australia board roles,” said CEO of Standards Australia, Dr Bronwyn Evans.
