The new International Standard on occupational health and safety (OHS) has today been published by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).
ISO 45001, Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements with guidance for use provides a framework for workplace safety, allowing organisations to manage this key risk as part of their business processes.
Standards Australia’s technical committee, SF-001, Occupational Health & Safety Management, a member of the ISO committee, voted to support the publication of the standard. The vote represents Australia’s ongoing commitment to the global development and support of occupational health and safety management.
The Australian committee is considering the compatibility of the standard within the Australian regulatory framework. Standards Australia will consult widely before undertaking any process to adopt ISO 45001 as an Australian Standard.
Standards Australia is committed to working with the committee and stakeholders to determine the most suitable way of utilising this new International Standard in Australia through promotion or adoption.
