Standards Australia and Bureau of Indian Standards collaborate on Standards Trade Enabling Project

March 25, 2022

Statements

Standards Australia welcomes the announcement of the Standards and Conformance Trade Enabling Program which will enhance collaboration between Standards Australia and its Indian counterpart, the Bureau of Indian Standards.

The program strengthens Australia and India’s already prosperous bilateral relationship. It will enable trade opportunities between the two nations in a range of areas such as agriculture, energy, resources, infrastructure, science and innovation, and healthcare.

“Standards Australia has long enjoyed a positive relationship with the Bureau of Indian Standards, working together on technical and policy matters under the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission, and on regional standardisation matters,” said Standards Australia CEO, Adrian O’Connell.

Through the program, Standards Australia and the Bureau of Indian Standards will be involved in the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources lead initiative; the Australia-India Standards Trade Enabling Project.

“This project will allow us to continue our good work with the Bureau of Indian Standards and ensure we collaboratively develop initiatives that identify common areas for standards creation and harmonisation,” said Mr O’Connell.

Through this project Standards Australia and the Bureau of Indian Standards will actively work towards reducing technical barriers to trade, boost supply chain resilience, build trade capacity and confidence, and create aligned standards processes.

“Standards Australia strongly supports this announcement and is looking forward to working with the Bureau of Indian Standards, government, industry and consumers,” concluded Mr O’Connell.
