Standards Australia has announced the winners for the 2022 Standards Awards.

The annual Standards Awards recognise members of the Australian standards development community and reward those who make a positive impact and further the development of standards within Australia and internationally.

Standards Australia is honouring community members for leading the charge in reviewing, updating and developing standards that make the use of international best practice, new technology, and help to improve overall access standards.

This year, the headlining W. R. Hebblewhite Medal – which exemplifies leadership, technical expertise and positive impact – is being awarded to Doug Crawford for his ongoing support of Standards Australia through his technical expertise and leadership over his 35-year tenure.

Over the last few decades, Doug has been instrumental in the development and maintenance of the scaffolding standards portfolio. He has been a trusted chair of several committees; including BD-043, Formwork, BD-092, Temporary Edge protection — Construction, and BD-092, Temporary Edge Protection — Construction practices, SF-013, Platforms, Gangways, Stairways and ladders.

An exceptional chair, highly respected by all members of the scaffolding industry committee, Doug has been the driving force in developing scaffolding standards and ensuring they are kept up to date.

Other awards appointed during the ceremony included:

• Meritorious Contribution Award (International) – Dr Stephen Collocott
• Emerging Leader Award – Balesh Baleshan
• Innovation Award – Rob Thomas
• Outstanding Committee Award – ME-063, Earthmoving Equipment

“The Standards Awards are an important annual event. These awards recognise members of our community who adhere to key values within the organisation around quality, community and innovation. Due to COVID-19, 2022 is the first time in three years that the awards have been hosted in person and we are delighted to meet again as a group to celebrate these individuals,” said Adrian O’Connell, Chief Executive Officer of Standards Australia.

The work they do continues to position Australia as a leader in standards development and helps us continue to advise on best practice, safety and new technologies,” he concluded.
