Vale David Singleton AM
Statements
It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of David Singleton AM. David served as a Director of Standards Australia from 2010 until 2019.
David will be remembered for his global leadership in engineering and sustainability and as a champion and connector of the causes in which he deeply believed.
Through a career spanning more than 40 years with ARUP, David led sustainable business growth including as a mentor and through his advocacy and governance roles in the not-for-profit sector, including with Standards Australia. He brought to us many lessons from his time as CEO and Chair of Arup Australasia, Chair of Global Infrastructure in the UK, and Global Planning leader and drove positive change from the Board, helping us and many others to integrating sustainability into business practices.
David was a passionate supporter of the contributions that Standards Australia makes to the Australian community. David came to our Board with proven strategic, operational and commercial skills developed in high profile and complex project environments in the infrastructure and built environment sector. His visionary leadership was an asset to our Board in a time of great change, and on behalf of his fellow directors and our members, we acknowledge and thank him for his service.
David's contributions were recognised by his peers, including being named one of the 100 Most Influential Engineers in Australia by Engineers Australia on five occasions and as a finalist for CEO of the Year by Equal Opportunity in the Workplace. He was a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering, and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia. David was recognised as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2018 for his services to engineering.
David’s great passion and pride in his life was his family, and to them, we extend our deepest condolences. David’s legacy will remain.
