Vale Libby Christie AM

Statements

It is with great sadness that Standards Australia acknowledges the passing of Libby Christie AM.

Libby served as a non-executive Director of Standards Australia from 2008 to 2017 - a time of great change for Standards Australia. She brought to Standards Australia deep insights and contributions from her experience in the arts sector, in commerce, and in government.

Libby held several management roles. From 2003 until 2009, she was the Managing Director of the Sydney Symphony, Australia’s leading orchestra and the resident orchestra at the Sydney Opera House. She was also an Executive Director of Arts Funding at the Australia Council for the Arts, leading boards and committees and managing arts national funding programs on behalf of the Australian government. From 2013 to 2022, Libby held the position of Executive Director of the Australian Ballet, where she made an outstanding and enduring contribution to the company and supported the Ballet through its response to the impact of COVID-19, which was particularly challenging within the arts sector.

In 2020, Libby was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to performing arts administration and to women in business. Earlier this year, Libby was bestowed the highest honour from the Australian Ballet when she was welcomed into its group of life members.

Libby touched many within our community and was highly regarded by Standards Australia’s Members and Councillors, her fellow Directors, and the Executive team. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.
