Corridor Infrastructure – Track Classification
Product Designation: AS 7630:2024
Abstract: The objective of this Standard is to: • provide a nationally consistent performance-based method for track classification that is applicable to all new, upgraded, and existing heavy railways in Australia; • enable RIMs to allocate a track classification to all heavy railway track sections for which they are responsible; • provide guidance for owners and operators of rolling stock to more readily determine if their rolling stock can physically access a track corridor(s), for which any RIM is responsible, by adopting the concept of route availability in addition to the track classification; • encourage rail transport operators (RTO)s to consider, when acquiring new assets, or replacing or upgrading existing assets, how those assets could be configured to lead to increased interoperability within their own railway network, and with other railway networks; an • through improved interoperability, increase the railway industry’s competitiveness and range of commercial opportunities.
Ballastless Track Systems
Product Designation: AS 7661:2024
Abstract: The objective of this Standard is to provide technical requirements to enable a rail infrastructure manager (RIM) to design, supply, install and maintain ballastless track systems. The Standard outlines minimum requirements for ballastless track systems. RIMs may accept alternative independently certified products, materials, construction procedures or testing regimes which meet or exceed these requirements. Responsibility for ensuring the minimum requirements are met remains with the parties undertaking the works. This Standard is intended to be used by rail authority’s, RIM, projects, and specifiers of ballastless track systems and for reference and development by suppliers and construction contractors.
Rail Management
Product Designation: AS 7640:2024
Abstract: The objective of this Standard is to assist rail infrastructure managers and other entities responsible for the selection, installation, and maintenance of rail by providing fundamental principles for rail management. It is an overarching document that establishes a roadmap to a suite of other AS standards containing details of various lifecycle stages of rail management.
Signalling Detection and Interface
Product Designation: AS 7505:2024
Abstract: The objective of this Standard is to ensure the continuing harmonization of signalling systems across Australian networks. This standard seeks to ensure that all new and modified rolling stock are compatible with train detection systems including those identified for the individual networks upon which it is intended to operate.
